We’re taking a break…
After 20 years of running creative, authentic, tailor-made and ethical holidays in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, we think we’ve earned a bit of a break ourselves.
When Go Differently was established way back in 2001, very few people had even heard of responsible travel nor considered the impact that their holidays might have on the places and people they visited. When we first started offering opportunities for short-term volunteering and homestays with local villagers, all based on the ethos “giving back” to the host communities, we believe we were one of the first companies in the UK, if not the world, to do so.
Thankfully things are very different now and even the larger, more main-stream tour operators are increasingly conscious of the responsibility they hold, no only to their clients but also to the local communities who welcome those clients. Consumer demand for responsible, ethical holidays has never been higher and we dare to hope that we’ve played our own small part in helping that to happen.
Of course, we’ve learned a lot along the way… and, with greater understanding of the issues involved, sometimes had to re-think our approach… but overall, we like to think that we, and rather more crucially, those who have travelled with us have really helped to make a difference, and hopefully had some pretty wonderful holidays at the same time too.
But now… at a time when travelling the world is facing greater challenges than perhaps ever before, we feel it’s the right time to take a step back, to look back at what we’ve achieved so far and assess where we go from here…
We very much hope we’ll be back… and we very much hope you’ll join us again… but in the meantime, we would simply and deeply like to thank all those who have chosen to travel with us over the years for their trust and support, and our dear friends all over South East Asia who have received them into their homes and hearts.
